This is a starting point for people who want to learn more about the Sardinian language. The menu on top “Learn Sardinian” will contain English to Sardinian translations as well as other useful information about the Sardinian language.
After some translations into Sardinian, the phonetic pronunciation is given in parentheses. This can be helpful as a guide to correct pronunciation, but it is advisable to learn the different individual sounds that comprise each word or sentence. The pronunciation section can help with this. Bear in mind that the standardization of a written form of Sardinian is still under debate. Here we use the official standard of the administration of the autonomous Region of Sardinia. the Limba Sarda Comuna (LSC – Common Sardinian Language), which is still in testing phase. Furtherly, there is not a standard pronunciation, but to learn Sardinian actually means to learn one of the almost 400 different dialects that form Sardinian language (all understandable each other). For my first attempt to delineate an English to Sardinian, the standard ortography will be explained and coupled with the pronunciation of the dialect of the village of Bitzi (Bitti in italian). The pronunciation of some other dialect (representative of main macro-areas) will be hopefully added in the future.
